My work explores the fundamental relationship between gestural lines and essential shapes. The graphic style of my work is heavily influenced by the Bauhaus aesthetic, which prioritizes abstract shapes and intentionally applied color.

I have a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship and handcrafted aesthetic evident in the work of graphic artists and draftsmen from the 1950s. I find it inspiring how their connection to their work was visible in every brushstroke, line, and illustration. When creating my own composites, I prefer to start by drawing in simple Field Notes memo books, as I enjoy the challenge of working in a minimal, utilitarian format.

After scanning the pages at high resolution and enlarging them, I am able to highlight the nuance and unintentional beauty of each ink stroke. Using design software, I combine my pen lines with bold graphic shapes, creating composites that value hierarchy and white space. To finish off each composite, I add a small stamp as a nod to maker's marks and industrial ephemera. This graphic device adds depth to the design, similar to how a period finishes a sentence. As a designer, this graphic approach feels natural to me.
